I saw this today, in response to the passing of author Harper Lee. It was posted anonymously on a news site and I wish the person had attached their name. Here’s their post.
‘Someone once said that we die three times.
The first death is our physical passing.
The next is when all those we have known are gone.
The last death is when there is no one holding us in memory.
And so, Harper Lee may live forever.’
Well said, Anonymous.
That’s one reason that I love reading history: history’s strength lies in its powerful memories – for that reason it makes me believe that some events, some people will live forever. I take great comfort in that.
I will always treasure my copy of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, as will many others. Ms. Lee will live forever.
